-I'm Kate...
I live in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside with my family, where life is wonderfully chaotic thanks to three horses, two dogs and one very opinionated cat!
US
Dogs & horses have always been at the centre of my world, and now my daughter is proudly following in my footsteps with the same slightly obsessive love for them. My husband, meanwhile, is mostly along for the ride, usually found in the driver’s seat of the lorry off to a show, or quietly wondering how exactly he ended up outnumbered by quite so many animals!
Beyond The Field Photography is about so much more than what happens in the field.
It's the first photographs of your new puppy or foal. Muddy boots after a family walk. Windswept rides. The laughter that happens when nobody is looking at the camera. The slightly chaotic family moments that you probably wouldn’t think to photograph, but will one day wish you had.
The golden-hour walks. The extra cuddles. The familiar face who has been by your side for years. The quirky little things that make your pet them. The connection between a child and their pony, the bond with a beloved dog, or simply the comfort of having them beside you. Because life moves quickly, and the things that feel ordinary today can become the things that mean everything tomorrow.
Whether you’re celebrating a new beginning, documenting life exactly as it is right now, or preserving the memory of someone you love, I want your photographs to feel real. Not overly posed. Not perfect for the sake of being perfect.
The Why?
Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and some of my greatest lessons and favourite memories have come from them. In fact, they’re even part of the BTF Photography logo. My horse, Zaggy and my Labrador, Lexi, feature in the design - a little reminder of two very special animals who have been such a huge part of my life and the inspiration behind my photography.
My journey with photography started in my early 20's, when my now-husband bought me my first DSLR. I loved it, but as life got busier, photography gradually took a back seat. Not long after I put my camera down, Lexi came into our lives. She became so much more than just another family dog, she was unique in every way. She was there through years of family life, adventures, muddy walks and everyday moments - quietly becoming part of the fabric of our lives. Alongside her was my wonderfully creaky chocolate bay thoroughbred, another constant throughout so many chapters of my life. Between them, they taught me patience, humour, how to slow down and most importantly, just how precious the ordinary moments can be.
Sadly, I said goodbye to Lexi recently. Losing her has been heart breaking, but it has also made something very clear to me: she is a huge part of the reason I will continue to do this. Because I know what it's like to wish you had more photographs. More of the little things. More muddy paws on the carpet, grey hairs, familiar expressions, favourite places and those completely ordinary moments that you never imagined you'd one day treasure so much. That's what I want to give to other people and their animals.
Our pets are with us for such a small part of our lives, but they leave an enormous space behind when they're gone. They are family, companions, best friends, and sometimes the ones who have been beside us through some of life's biggest chapters. So if I can create photographs that help someone hold onto that feeling - the personality, the quirks, the love, the connection - then that's something I'm incredibly proud to be able to do. Lexi may no longer be here, but she will always be part of the story behind BTF Photography, and I hope her legacy is that I continue to capture the very special bond people share with their beloved pets.
Because those memories really do matter.
Kate
